News & Events for the week of April 22, 2013
In the news this week, Urban Toronto has a look at Little Trinity‘s work renovating and restoring the Workers’ Cottages located on the church property. It’s great to see some progress on this project, which has been long in the works and has only moved forward due to the tireless work of some passionate church members and supporters.
Councillor Pam McConnell has some highlights from the April meeting of Toronto City Council posted on her website.
For events this week, don’t forget that tonight (Monday, April 22) is the regular monthly public meeting of the West Don Lands Committee. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the 11th floor amenity room at 39 Parliament Street.
On Tuesday, April 23, Enterprise Toronto will hold their 7th annual Small Business Arts Forum, a free all-day event that gives local business owners a chance to experience a jam-packed program with seminars, roundtable discussions, opportunities for network, a panel discussion on crowdsourcing and a keynote delivered by Michie Mee, Canada’s Original Hip-Hop Queen. Details are online.
For Wednesday, April 24, take the 504 across to Gallery 402 for photographer Eric Morse’s new exhibit, Transports of Delight. The show, which includes work focussing on “streetcars and other wonders in the older city” kicks off with a reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. We’ve got all the details.
Another great event hits the Gilead on Thursday, April 25, with a Local Food Movement five course prix fixe dinner featuring wine from Greenlane Estate Winery. Book your reservations quick as space is limited — things kick off with a reception at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, April 27, our local councillor Pam McConnell will be holding her annual Community Environment Day at Lower Sherbourne Park. It’s an opportunity to pick up free compost, purchase items like rain barrels and drop off hazardous waste and other useless junk. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The details are on Pam’s website.
Experience a little local history on Sunday, April 28 as the Ontario Heritage Trust commemorates the Battle of York — part of the War of 1812 — at the Parliament Interpretive Centre, located at Front Street East & Berkeley Street. The Honourable David Onley, Lieutenant Government of Ontario, will be on hand to mark the occasion, which will also see the first-ever exhibit of information and artifacts relating to General Sir Roger Hale Sheaffe, who led the defence during the attack on York. RSVP for the event online to guarantee space.
Lastly, remember that you only have a few days left to NAME THAT PARK by entering the Don River Park naming contest.
