News & Events: Que Supper Club opens, Free Riverside History Walk & Sail-in Cinema

Events for the week of August 12, 2013

Que Supper Club, Queen East’s newest “feast for the senses” is officially open for your business, after a soft launch a couple of weeks ago. You can view their tasty-looking lunch and dinner menus on their website. Que is located at 364 Queen Street East.

The Sail-in Cinema returns to Sugar Beach this week, with a truly great line-up of films for families to enjoy either out on the water or from the shore. Ghostbusters kicks things off on Thursday, August 15, followed by The Princess Bride on Friday and Back to the Future on Saturday. All shows begin at dusk — approximately 8:45 p.m. Find ticket details here.

The Extension Room, Corktown’s favourite fitness/dance studio, is holding another special event this Friday, August 16, with a special Rihanna Tribute Heel Strut Workshop and Party. Even if you can’t sing and you can’t dance, well, who cares — you can learn to walk like Rihanna. The event is set for 7:45 p.m. Check out the Extension Room’s event calendar for details. They’re at 30 Eastern Avenue.

Also on Friday, August 16, the Dominion on Queen (5oo Queen East) hosts a no-cover evening featuring the musical stylings of Often Running. 8:30 p.m. to midnight.

Jamie Kennedy’s Gilead  hosts its regular Wine Bar this Friday, August 16, with four wines going for just $7 a glass, plus $5 beers and a menu with all your favourites. Back Door Burgers will also be served up from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. Gilead is at 4 Gilead Place — their event calendar is comprehensive.

On Saturday, August 17, our neighbours across the river in Riverside are offering a free Historical Walk in Riverside. Led by “Riverside Aficionado” Ron Fletcher, the walk will start at the Ralph Thornton Centre at 765 Queen Street East at 2 p.m. View the event page for details.

Also on Saturday, August 17, our friends in Regent Park are hosting Block-o-Rama 2013 from 2 to 11 p.m. The event will feature a $1 community BBQ and promises ” a variety of live musical entertainment and performances, food, games, prizes and much more!” View the details here.

And finally — and further afield — the Leslieville Flea is back on Sunday, August 18. “Selling vintage and salvaged items, furnishings, antiques, art, photography and more,” the Flea runs behind the Duke at Queen Street East & Leslie Street. Vendors will be selling their wares between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Find the details here.
