News for the week of March 3, 2014

Welcome to March! It’s still cold.

But here’s something to look forward to. The Distillery District has announced that they will be hosting a weekly, juried market starting June 1, 2014. It’ll run every Sunday, rain or shine. They’re currently on the lookout for vendors. So if you know someone looking for a place to sell their wares, please send them this link.

MPP Glen Murray has released a newsletter follow-up to a series of consultations held last fall regarding land use planning and the appeals system. (In other words: it’s about reforming the OMB.) He’s hosting a follow-up event on March 10, 2014 at St. Paul’s on Bloor Street East, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Click here for to read the newsletter and get all the details.

Our friends at even & odd, who operate a great little shop on Queen Street East, have launched a new website and online store. They’ve got great prices on some really nice looking pieces. Take a look for yourself.

It’s a big month for local theatre. Corktown’s own Cahoots Theatre Company has debuted their latest work THE WANDERERS at Buddies in Bad Times theatre. It’s an “epic tale of a family transplanted from war-torn Afghanistan.” It plays until March 23. You can get your tickets online — don’t miss out.

In addition, the Alumnae Theatre continues to prepare for their NEW IDEAS FESTIVAL, which starts on March 12 with a great line-up of works. Visit their website for performance details and to get tickets.

Down at the Distillery, the Arta Gallery debuts their latest exhibition this week with CAPIC’S DOUBLE VISION. It runs from March 4 through March 7, with an opening reception on Thursday, March 6 at 6 p.m. The exhibit “pairs together photographers with illustrators to create a unique and creative portrait of each other, displayed ‘face to face’ in the gallery space.” Visit Arta’s website for details.
