News: Blitz Party, Endgame, Extension Room & A Nightmare on Queen Street

ONCE AND FUTURE KING: The new L Tower caps off the changing perspective on King Street East through Corktown. Photo by Jason Zed.

Body Blitz, Corktown’s newest water spa for women, held a gala opening party last week, attended by the likes of Jim Cuddy and Caitlin Cronenberg. There was also a mermaid. Check out the photos. The interior of this new facility—set to open in mere weeks—looks amazing.

The City of Toronto has opened registration and posted a schedule of drop-in program times for the Regent Park Aquatics Centre. Lots of programming for kids if you’ve got little ones in need of swimming lessons.

Corktown’s own yoga and fitness studio, The Extension Room, continues to offer great classes in their location at 30 Eastern Avenue. Check out their October newsletter for a look at what’s going on.

In the Distillery District this week, budding photographers may be interested in Blurb Canadian Road Trip’s Three-Hour Photo Safari. It’s an opportunity to learn “about lighting, timing and composition and a chance to get on-the-spot advice.” Things get started at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23. Register your spot online.

Also in the Distillery, early bird performances of Samuel Beckett’s Endgame, as produced by Soulpepper, start this week at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts. The show will see its official opening night next Wednesday. Tickets are available online.

Speaking of performances: after opening last week, “The Hours That Remain” continues its run on stage at the Daniels Spectrum until November 3 with evening and matinee performances. Click here for ticket details.

On Saturday, October 27, the Dominion on Queen turns ghoulish with A Nightmare on Queen Street, alongside musical guests Irene Torres & The Sugar Devils. The Dominion promises a night of  great tunes, costumes and prizes. Cover is $15, or $10 if you come in costume. (And why wouldn’t you?)

Lastly, for the few in the neighbourhood who enjoy a fine beer, this weekend is CASK DAYS at the Evergreen Brickworks. For two full days, 71 breweries will offer more than 100 Cask Ales. Visit the event site for all the details.
