The Corktowner / Featured New Business
A new neighbourhood salon is making designer dresses more accessible—and giving local wardrobes a second life.
Eight Cranes opened at 360 King Street East on October 2, 2026, bringing a community-driven approach to special-occasion dressing. Women can rent from a collection of designer dresses or consign their own pieces and earn a commission each time they are rented.

Meet the business
In conversation with Waverly
CRBA’s Susan Bates spoke with Waverly of Eight Cranes about starting her business in Corktown, her hopes for the neighbourhood and what comes next.
What type of business is Eight Cranes, and what services do you offer?
Eight Cranes is a designer dress rental salon that gives women access to beautiful pieces at a fraction of the cost. Our inventory comes directly from women in the community. Women may consign their dresses for rental and earn a commission each time it is rented.
When did you open?
We opened our doors to the public on October 2, 2026.
Why did you choose Corktown to open your business?
As an East Ender myself, I want to see the Corktown community continue to develop and grow to its full potential. It is a lovely and diverse area with so much to offer! The people are wonderful and eager to see local businesses thrive.

What are your business goals?
My goal is to continue growing our community and inventory, allowing us to bring more beautiful dresses to the women of Toronto.
What would you like to see in Corktown?
My hope is to see a book store or a specialty grocery store in the near future!
