Urban Toronto took another look last week at construction progress of the Pan Am Athletes Village in the West Don Lands area of Corktown. They note that “it looks like everything will be in working order in time for the Opening Ceremonies.” Good news!
Events for the week of September 9, 2013
Two more consultation sessions will take place this week on the only-a-bit-controversial subject of expanding the island airport to accommodate jets. The first session takes place tonight, on Monday, September 9, at Metro Hall (55 John Street) from 6 to 9 p.m. The second session — a town hall — will take place Thursday, September 12 at the Direct Energy Centre (Exhibition Place) from 6 to 9 p.m. Find the details here.
It’s a busy week for our friends at the Extension Room, Corktown’s favourite dance/fitness/yoga studio at 30 Eastern Avenue.
- On Thursday, September 12, they’re hosting a contemporary dance workshop with special guest Angela Wong. No prior experience is required. It runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Registration is $20.
- On Friday, September 13, it’s the rescheduled Rihanna Heel Strut Workshop & Dance Party, with Shawn Bracke. Registration is $25. 7:30 to 9 p.m.

On Friday, September 13, Back Door Burgers are once again available at Jamie Kennedy’s Gilead. Five bucks gets you a tasty burger. 11:30 to 2 p.m at 4 Gilead Place.
Starting on Friday, September 13 and running through to September 26, the George Street Diner (129 George Street) will play host to Realspace Theatre’s DINE HER. It’s a “hilarious new comedy about a love story gone terribly awry. In real-time and real-space – where you may be part of the action – up-close and personal with a hungry zombie.” Tickets are $39.95 and include dinner (7 p.m.) and the show. Finally, our friends in Leslieville are once again hosting the much-loved Leslieville Flea this Sunday, September 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Head to the location behind the Duke pub at Queen & Leslie to discover great deals on great items. Find the details on their website.
