Historic street name unveilings, February 2024

Coralina Lemos, Corktown Historian, along with heritage advocates Adam Wynne and Pancheta Barnett joined forces to commemorate two new street signs honouring Corktown’s Black and Indigenous history and persons of historical significance.

Event attendees included MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam (Toronto Centre), City of Toronto Counsellor Chris Moise (Toronto Centre—Ward 13) and area residents. The two new streets, ‘Henry ‘Box’ Brown Lane’ and ‘North Star Way’ represent Corktown’s important history, and the prominent people who lived here in the early days of Toronto. This short event appropriately marked the kick-off of the City of Toronto’s 2024 Black History Month activities.
