OLD EASTERN AVE RE-OPENS: As reported to us by eagle-eyed Corktowner Ole Calderone, Old Eastern Avenue has been re-opened to car traffic. The fences came down ahead of schedule, as Infrastructure Ontario had promised that they’d open the road by September 30. Thanks for the speedy work!
MORE STREET ART: If you head through Corktown Common this week, you’re likely to see artist Rolande Souliere and her team hard at work at a new public art installation at the Bala Underpass — the tunnel connecting the park with the Don Valley trail. We’re looking forward to experiencing the final product!

CORKTOWN URBAN DESIGN GETS NOTICED: The winners of the Toronto 2015 Urban Design Awards were announced last week. Local projects receiving the honour were Paul Raff’s Mirage public art in Underpass Park and Urban Capital’s River City 1 development. Deserving winners!

- First Gulf’s planned development just across the river at 21 Don Roadway will have big impacts for Corktowners. To keep informed, attend the next Community Workshop on Thursday, October 1 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. It’ll be held at the Ralph Thornton Centre at 765 Queen East. Details about the project and the meeting are available at the new Project 21 website.
- The next public meeting of the Corktown Residents & Business Association will be held Tuesday, October 6 at Little Trinity Church between 7 and 9 p.m. We’ll have more details on venue and the agenda in the weeks ahead.
