Here’s a scoop. The new Corktown Neighbourhood Mural is ready for viewing – check it out on the side of the Green Roofs wall facing Sackville Park. Read the full press release from the Corktown Residents and Business Association for all the details behind this great work by local artist Gary Smith. We’ll have more details on the official November 8 unveiling next week.

Future Corktown resident David Porter got some profile in the Toronto Star this week, with a look at why he chose River City as a place to live over more suburban options.

Waterfront Toronto has just released their newsletter for the month of October, which is packed with info about all their ongoing development work. Corktown residents should pay close attention to their updates about the Pan-Am Games facilities and the ongoing work in the West Don Lands.

Families, take note – at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts from now until November 25, Soulpepper presents ALLIGATOR PIE. An original production based on the celebrated children’s poems of Canadian Dennis Lee, the theatre company promises performances filled with “music, invention and Lee’s delicious imagination.” Family packages are available. Visit the website for details.

To celebrate Halloween on October 31, why not check out the Dominion on Queen for the world-famous Corktown Ukelele Jam? This year, they’re holding a “Creep Show Costume Cabaret.” There’s no cover if you come in costume. Doors open at 8 p.m.

On November 1, our friends at 51 Division of the Toronto Police Service are holding a Prohibition-Era Speakeasy Cocktail Reception and Fashion Show at the Daniels Spectrum in Regent Park. The event boasts “swell musicians” and “fabulous models” – it’s all done for a good cause. Last-minute tickets are available online.

Also at the Dominion this week, fine photography fans will want to check out the launch of Toronto photographer Rudi Christ‘s new book, “On Toronto An Urban Portrait” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 4. The event will include a musical performance by Alistair Christl & the Cosmotones.

Lastly, we’ll have more on these next week, but remember to mark your calendars for MPP Glen Murray’s Distillery/Corktown Community Planning Meeting on Monday, November 5 and the next meeting of the Corktown Residents and Business Association on Tuesday, November 6, with special guest Councillor Pam McConnell.
