On April 22, 2015, the Corktown Residents & Business Association asked residents what kind of retail they’d like to see in the neighbourhood, specifically at the newly-vacant storefront spaces at 510 King Street East and 549 King Street East. (We have since learned that Infiniti has plans to hold on to the space at 549 King East.)
Both locations are at the heart of Corktown, and have the potential to help form the neighbourhood’s character for years to come. As such, the CRBA views these locations as vitally important.
The survey was open for 24 hours and promoted through Facebook and Twitter. With 306 responses — 96% coming from local residents — the results were overwhelming: Corktown wants a grocery store.
The people have spoken. 84% of respondents identified a grocery store as a top local retail need.
