Events for the week of January 13, 2014

On Monday, January 13, our friends at the Gooderham & Worts Neighbourhood Association in the Distillery District are set to hold their monthly meeting. The meeting will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 39 Parliament Street (11th floor amenity room) with special guest Kevin Beaulieu, Executive Director of Pride Toronto. Click here for details.

A pair of exciting events at the Dominion on Queen this week, in addition to its usual calendar of great music. On Monday, January 13 check out the Good Neighbours Open Mic, which kicks off with sign-ups at 7:30 p.m. and music, comedy and spoken word performances at 8 p.m. Then on Wednesday, January 15, check out the world famous Corktown Ukelele Jam at 8 p.m. — the Uke Jam will be celebrating its fifth anniversary as a Toronto institution with great music and great times.

On Tuesday, January 14, the East End Speakers Series launches at the Paintbox Bistro (555 Dundas Street East) from 7 to 9 p.m. with a great line-up of local speakers. The event is free, with a special $5 Bistro menu available for food. Check out the line-up and details here — be sure to RSVP your attendance.

On Sunday, January 19, the much beloved Leslieville Flea takes up winter residence in the Distillery District. Head to the Fermenting Cellar (28 Distillery Lane) between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to check out more than 70 vendors offering a variety of items. Check out the Leslieville Flea website for details.

Finally, mark your calendars for Monday, January 20. That’s when Councillor Pam McConnell will be holding her town hall meeting on Toronto’s 2014 budget. The session will begin at 6:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Hall – 1575 King Street East, at Jarvis. Come out and give your two cents on the multi-billion dollar plan.
